Palm PDAs and Linux - Plucker
- Once upon a time, I used a small Docbook reader. It did a nice
job, would read prepared docs that I would download from web site
slike Memoware, Macduff.net, Gutenberg, PalmPilot Library. It worked
well. It would even let me create small DOC documents too.
- I paid for it, got a few upgrades, and then one day went to get
the latest upgrade. It was huge. They had put a huge amount of effort
into providing native Microsoft Word DOC capabilities. Palm DOC does
not equal MS DOC. But that's the path they took.
- I downgraded to the previous version and hung onto that. But I
wanted to create my own Palm DOCs. One day I found Plucker, saw a
mention on Slashdot and then Freshmeat. Downloaded it and never looked
back.
- Web site - plkr.org/index.plkr.
- Comes with source code for the Palm app. You can compile it on
Linux, and see how the cross-compiler features of GCC work. Also look
through the source and dream about writing your own Palm app if you
only had the time.
- Palm app is nice. Works really well. Looks good. Robust. Does
everything I want.
